We Remember

CenotaphIn Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved, and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

-- Major John McCrae, M.D.,

Royal Canadian Army

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."

Fire Protection

November already.  Before we know it Christmas will be here.  Time to get started for the busy season ahead and make sure you and your home are protected in case of fire as this season brings with it added risk.

  • Unpack and test all electrical holiday decorations.

  • Review the fire escape.

  • Check fire extinguishers.

  • Check weatherstripping.

  • Check the batteries in smoke detectors.

  • If you live in a condo does your landlord have a key to gain access to your suite in an emergency?

  • Recently there was a fire in a suite in the building where I live.  The owners had refused to give the Resident Manager a key.  This resulted in the fire men having to chop a hole in the door to gain access to put the fire out losing precious time.

Chrysanthemum is the flower for November

The chrysanthemum means compassion, friendship and secret love. This flower has many different varieties and colours.  It is also a symbol of the sun. Chrysanthemum was named after the Greek word which means gold flower. The chrysanthemum blooms in late summer and fall.  It is a perennial flower that will come yearly.

Thought for the Month

We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities.
